I did the taxes today, and Brad took me to Rotofugi for a goodwife reward. I got a SuperMario keychain, a cactus pup, and this Red mini Smorkin. Happy wife.

Sorry for the crappy photo. Friday night was the work holiday party. Dinner and wandering around a brilliant old mansion. No time for cute pics, Dr. Jones.
But check out that gorgeous wallpaper.

Sick today.
Spent most of the day on the couch with red eyes watching horrible Judge shows. Colds suck.

So, I thought I would take this opportunity to congratulate Geraldine McCaughrean for her Printz book win on The White Darkness today. That, and other awards including the Caldecott and Newbery awards were announced this morning at the American Library Association Midwinter conference in Philadelphia this morning.
I didn't make it to midwinter this year. I also haven't read The White Darkness yet. But you better believe I checked it out and I'll be starting it tonight.

I'm getting a little bored of looking at my face. This whole experiment is more than a little narcissistic. Still, I'm looking forward to looking back at the year and seeing the changes, provided there will be some.
Sundays for me mean coffee and breakfast, and days spent with magazines and video games. Walks in the cold and trips to the thrift store to find the dishes no one else wants. Lazy hours spent painting my toenails and watching Cameron Crowe movies for the 32nd time.

My creativity eluded me today - ended up climbing on the window sills. Marvelous view from up there.

Sometimes, after a long week of work, its alright to spend Friday night eating pizza and watching the third season of Lost of DVD. I'll do something more exciting tomorrow.

My very old apartment has very old radiators. This means that all night long they wheeze and sigh. They also mean that my apartment has free heat.
So I like them.

I paint mugs. Sometimes.
I've been ridiculously busy during/since the holidays, so my poor Etsy store has suffered. But when I have some time I often spend it painting ceramic mugs with cupcakes. And robots. And Godzillas.

This is a last minute SP because my camera ate the shot I painstakingly set up earlier. I sort of like how this one turned out. Happy accidents and all that.
Did I mention how much I love the gold headband I'm wearing in this shot? I got it for about $5 at Old Navy a few months ago and I can't stop wearing it. I feel like Wonder Woman when I have it on.
Now if only I could wrangle a lasso of truth and an invisible plane.

Its the middle of January, but it feels like a warm spring today. It was actually over 60 degrees. Scary.
However ominously unseasonable the weather was, it made walking around outside a pretty easy thing. I was feeling sort of uninspired for SPs today so I decided to let the red jacket do the work. The wash reminds me of the early 80s prints of my family - all over warm and orangey.
I think I actually need to get a tripod so I can start working on some more interesting ideas.

We have a plastic owl on our apartment's deck. Its meant to scare away pigeons. Mostly it works.
Recently we got new neighbors who are feeding the pigeons in an effort to stall our vermin-scaring tactics. They leave out chocolate covered doughnuts to keep them fat and cooing.
I appreciate their kindness for the little beasts, but c'mon - they're pigeons! They're loud and dirty and a huge pain. I'm thinking if I do double duty with the owl and scarecrow it up, no pigeon will come near. Even with the promise of free chocolate doughnuts.

My first adventure in self timing.
Apparently 365days is already helping me grow since this is the first time I've bothered to locate the self timer on my menu.
Days off are for reading. And I heart Pauline Kael.

It is so cold in Chicago. The ice was crystallizing on my living room windows early this morning.
Absolutely gorgeous, but it left me in no mood to leave the house.

Back to work.
Looking out the window and remembering the five days of of vacation I've just left behind.

I'm going to attempt 365days this year. I figure that I can use it to try to improve my photography/photoshop skills.
So here's me. No makeup, no glasses, on the floor of my bathroom on the first day of the New Year. Which I spent playing Super Mario Galaxy and watching 30 Rock. And eating a ton of chinese takeout. In other words, a brilliant day. Back to life tomorrow.
